These characters that draw you in… September 22, 2015 by Nicholas Santillan
I first read SHATTERED TRIANGLE when the first edition came out a couple years ago. It is an easily consumed, yet compelling murder mystery by a local Los Angeles author, William Messenger. The prose tends to be overly concerned with descriptions and the minute historical details of Los Angeles, which often time overshadows what is happening in the story. However, the plot is less about whodunit than it is about the intricate characters, their backstories, and well thought out motivations. In addition, all the attention to detail creates a real sense of place that the characters inhabit. In the end, it's these characters that draw you in. SHATTERED TRIANGLE is a good first novel and a good read. I'm looking forward to getting reacquainted with the characters in the recently released sequel BELEAGUERED TRUTH.

A fine first novel by my former college priest. February 16, 2015 by Christian D. Orr My former college priest at the University of Southern California (USC), Fr. Bill Messenger (retired from the priesthood for the past 5 years now), has written a doozy of a first novel, a first-rate detective novel and murder mystery. As a disclaimer, I will admit that I don’t agree with the author’s political views expressed in the novel, just like I disagreed with the political viewpoints he espoused in his homilies at the USC Catholic Center back in the day. But that aside, just as there was certainly never a dull moment during Fr. Bill’s homilies, there’s nary a dull moment in Shattered Triangle, and the politics does nothing to detract from the entertainment value of the book. The novel’s plot line and characters and engaging, thought-provoking, and engrossing from start to finish. And it has some excellent insights into L.A. life and culture than anybody who grew up in SoCal during the latter half of the 20th century can appreciate. See more…

January 25, 2015 by Detective Hugo Cepeida (Ret) In the classic whodonit, this story is full of suspense and intrigue. What will destroy the loyalty between a priest, a cop, a politician? As an Angeleno, you are drawn to the story and the characters as the author takes you through a bit of nostalgia: he describes what appear to be everyone’s childhood buddies, places and sounds very familiar to you--almost as if he describes your own life. However, the story turns into one of greed, deception, corruption and murder. It is captivating and engaging. You are left wondering...is is fact or fiction? Positively a book to read. It is a drama mystery in the classic detective style.

Haunting and Compelling Tale November 8, 2013 by  Edie Dykeman - See all my reviews (VINE VOICE)
Shattered Triangle is essentially a story of three men who grew up together - two of them were twins - and who each took a different path as an adult. One became a cop, one a priest, and one a politician with high goals. The author takes a detailed look at their lives, their interaction with one another, and the decisions they made during the course of their lives and, eventually, how they reacted when tragedy struck. This is one of the most powerful and gripping stories I've read in a long time. Even now, several days after finishing the book, I'm haunted by the events that took place and how each man chose to deal with the circumstances.

August 22, 2013 by  Denise Gonzalez (Phoenix, Arizona USA) - See all my reviews Shattered Triangle is an interesting study of friendships, and the influence of church, society and politics on these friendships. To whit, three kids who grew up together--particularly one set of twins--and all three went separate ways--one into law; one to God; and one to politics. The bottom line is which ones succumbs to greed and corruption. Mr. Messenger takes you on a journey that is exciting and brings you to a twist ending. It leaves you hoping for a sequel. I would recommend this book to anyone who follows politics, faith and mystery genres. You have all 3 wrapped up in one great package.

June 28, 2013 by Deanne Marie Moinuddin - See all my reviews Although I don't usually read thrillers, I found this book totally engrossing. After starting this book one evening, I was unable to put it down for long and eventually finished it over a two day period. The LA setting was meticulously written. Since I am an LA native, I found my self driving down those same streets in my mind as I was reading them on the page, and enjoying it the whole time. Each character was fully written and believable. Overall, I highly recommend Shattered Triangle.

I don’t read novels, but I heard good things about this one. I was not disappointed. Some of the history was a bit detailed, but I learned a lot about Los Angeles. The characters were great, and the storyline was a page turner. I want to hear more about these people. Hopefully, there will be a sequel.

Recommend Enjoyable January 25, 2013 by canary0 At a time in my life when I was seeking answers, this story with its intricate story line was a God send. Deeply emotional, captivating, and except for X language that I do not like at all (no excuses) it holds the reader until the end. I also LEARNED from the many knowledgeable explanations given by the author and using my Nook.

Intriguing Book November 21, 2012 by Candy - See all my reviews Shattered Triangle is the type of book that you keep thinking of all day long and can’t wait to complete. 2nd read November 15, 2012 by George A. Jenkins “gaj” (la costa) - See all my reviews Shattered Triangle is not just a mystery novel, it is a study of people from an author that has spent his life on this mission. The wisdom contained in this book is obtained by reading between the lines and the silence between the words and paragraphs. The wisdom comes from the soul of a writer, William P. Messenger, and his variety of life experiences--many of which appear in the characters of the book. The Book when studied as a teaching rather than a novel, contains lessons for all humans that want to see justice served and fair play the norm not just as a sound bite, but rather as a human reality in our daily lives.

August 28, 2012 by estebanrael Set against the backdrop of Los Angeles during the latter part of the 20th Century, Shattered Triangle is a crime drama that not only explores the tangled mystery of multiple murders, but the complex relationship among three childhood friends. The book’s author, William Messenger, does a great job of character development, connecting the golden post-war era of Southern California with the lives of each character and how each matured in response to that era in the person that they became. Messenger crafts a scenario of mystery and intrigue leaving the reader curious as to how the tale will end. The book is enjoyable and a great read - I would recommend it to everyone.

Easy, Entertaining and Engaging August 14, 2012 by Joe in Utah The book is an easy, entertaining and engaging read. The storyline has an interesting and somewhat complex cast of characters and interrelationships that provoke additional levels of thought. I read the book cover to cover in 5 days and found myself reflecting on the story line throughout those five days. I thoroughly enjoyed the read and look forward to the a sequel and/or prequel!

Page Turner August 4, 2012 by P.A. Lach Savored and will re-read many sections of this book. Interwoven with the unraveling of an horrendous murder scene are the thoughtful expositions on politics, religion and personal values of the principle characters. Character dialogue is somewhat stilted begging the question “do real people really talk like that?” Having said that, this is an ingenious story with a snap twist ending. And excellent summer read.

Shattered Triangle is an outstanding read July 2, 2012 by CeceliaB The character development was great. Each character was their own person, yet their blending was vital to the story. The author totally maintained the old saying of being a true “page turner”. You wanted to know why this happened and could anyone have helped stop or even prevent it.
